Celebrate You Showing Up Without "Just"
By Ly Smith | UpCycle Coaching
This week, inside our community, we did something quietly radical.
We looked at a word most of us have been saying for years without ever questioning it. And we decided it no longer gets to define us.
That word is just.
I'm just a mom. I'm just helping out. It's just a small business. I just wanted to ask a quick question.
It sounds harmless. Polite, even. But every time it shows up, it does the same small job: it makes you a little less. A little quieter. A little easier to overlook, including by yourself.

What Happens When You Start Noticing
All week, the women in the G3 Collective practiced three simple things:
Noticing how often "just" shows up in the way they talk about themselves.
Replacing it with something true.
Catching it, at least once, before it landed.
That last one matters more than it sounds. Catching a word before it lands means you've created a gap between the old habit and the new choice. And that gap is where change lives.
Each time you did this, you took one step toward the woman who exists underneath the label.
Welcome to the beginning of a reclamation.
The Doorway on a Lava Beach
I remember standing on a lava beach in Hawaii, covered in just.
I am just a wife. Just a stay-at-home mom. Just a shell of a woman.
It came in like a flood, and it hurt. What I didn't know then was that this moment of painful awareness was actually the doorway. That flood of "just" was not the verdict on my life. It was the signal that something in me was ready to come back.
And she did come back.
Not all at once. With effort and intention and the kind of daily practice we talk about in this community every single week, she came back.
And she brought with her the memory of a little girl who loved to speak, who loved to lead, who had gifts she had not yet given herself permission to use fully.
She Is in You, Too
That woman is in you, too.
She has been there the whole time, underneath the roles and the obligations and the word that kept her small.
If you practiced with us this week, even in the smallest way, you went looking for her. That deserves to be celebrated.
And if you're just finding this now? (See how easily it slips in?) Start today. Listen for the word the next time you introduce yourself, answer an email, or describe what you do. Then try saying the sentence without it, and notice how it feels to stand fully inside your own words.
Reflect
Take a few minutes with one of these:
Where did "just" show up for you this week? Did you catch it?
When you dropped it, did you feel a difference?
Did something stir in you around who you are underneath the label?
There are no wrong answers. Name it, even if only on paper. The woman who showed up without the "just" this week is worth celebrating.
Five Minutes to Change the Conversation
Catching a word like "just" is the beginning. Rewriting what comes after it is where the real shift happens.
That's why I created The 5-Minute Self-Talk Reset, a free, simple practice for the moments when the old words get loud: before a big conversation, after a hard one, or anytime you need to come back to yourself.
Change your self-talk, change your results.
